Traditions: A Tradition of Listeners
Have you ever noticed that when you are off the Reservation eating in a restaurant, it is so noisy? Why? It
is because everyone’s talking – maybe at the same time too?? On the Reservation when you ask a question, there is usually a lingering
pause before you get an answer.
There are a number of possible reasons why; maybe because Native Americans have an oral tradition, maybe
out of respect to the talker, or maybe just maybe he/she wants to really think first before answering.
As Christians we all need to be good listeners – listening to God’s Word, to His Spirit, and to others
around us!
Mark 7:14 - “And after He called the multitude to Him again, He {began} saying to them, "Listen to
Me, all of you, and understand:”
Proverbs 7:24 - “Now therefore, {my} sons, listen to me, and pay attention to the words of my mouth.”

News
- Housing Grant goes to tribe: A $2.27 million grant to cover the annual operation, maintenance and
associated costs of the affordable housing program on the Mescalero Apache Reservation was approved as part of a funding package for
the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development.

- Mascot bill in California voted down for the second time: For the second time in the past year
the California Assembly voted down a bill that would have prohibited schools from using American Indian mascots. The use of sports
names, symbols, mascots and logos depicting American Indians by non-Indian teams and organizations is offensive to many American
Indians.
- First Nations Leaders meet to discuss drinking water on reserves: The Canadian federal government
needs to do more to ensure reserves across the country have safe drinking water, speakers from First Nations reserves across the
country said at a meeting. This follows a survey that showed that 75% of all water systems needed major work. Responsibility for
providing water and wastewater services to First Nations is shared among band councils, Health Canada, and the Indian and Northern
Affairs Department.
Walking
the New Path
(Part 2
from Lesson 2: Who Is Father - Creator?)
3. Our Father - Creator Is All Knowing
He has perfect knowledge (He knows everything). Even our thoughts - even our future thoughts and actions. Our Father - Creator chose
us to be His son or daughter even though He knows about all our failures and sins - yet He still loves us.
Romans 11:33 - “Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How
unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!”
Matthew 6:8 - “Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you
ask him.”
4. Our Father - Creator Is Powerful
He has unlimited power. Everything is under His control. He has power over men, all animals. He also has control over the spiritual
world - both the angels and the fallen angels, which we call demons.
1 Chronicles 29:11 - “Yours, O Lord, is greatness and the power and the glory and
the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, O Lord, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over
all.”
Jeremiah 32:27 - “I am the LORD, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for Me?”
Father-Creator has the power to heal us; emotionally, spiritually, and physically. He has
the power to turn our tragedies into something good. What has He done for you?

us to fight. He I believe is not sure about his life as far as us go. He loves me and we are to be married in a few months but need a
lot of prayer and strength. We have had many bad times and would like to move on and make our relationship stronger and stable so that
one day we can get married and be happy like we both desperately want."
