Traditions: Who am I?
Traditionally, it was the grandparents that had the responsibility of raising the children of the Nation
knowing their inheritance. They were taught customs and traditions of the tribe. Reservation life, boarding schools and alcohol have all
contributed to the breakdown of this family and the tribal order. Thus, many Natives today are asking, “Who am I?”
Yet, there is an answer for the Christian. Father-Creator answers the question “Who am I?”
Ephesians 1:4-6: “For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined
us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will--to the praise of his glorious grace, which
he has freely given us in the One he loves”. (NIV)
When we are united with Christ through faith in Him, we are given a new inheritance. We are given: wisdom, hope, “great power”,
authority of Jesus Christ, there is a new union of heaven and earth. So now we have a new spiritual nature. We now can claim the new
inheritance He has given each one of His sons and daughters! (Ephesians 1)
NOTE: WFC has used Ephesians as discipleship training for years on the rez. We will be preparing a follow-up discipleship course for use
after “Walking the New Path” based on the book of Ephesians.

News
- Native Christian Sister makes mission trip:
This is a recent email we
received from a Sister in Christ. Please keep her in your prayers. We will let you know about her trip in a future newsletter.
“Greetings in the Name of Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. God is moving me in a mission direction to be out west this spring
(Arizona). I retained a copy of your "Flight of the Eagle." God has told me that I was to take it with me (about 100 copies) and that
I was to give one to every Native American I met during my trip, but I would like to know your location...would love the opportunity
to meet you and fellowship personally if possible. I am on your online & snailmail mailing lists, but He has been leading me in a
Native missions direction for a number of years now - the opportunity to follow through with an actual trip has only just presented
itself through His grace. My trip will be during the April vacation from school (Starting the 18th). I plan to be in the
Phoenix/Glendale area, but might be able to deviate enough to meet you - would consider it an honor, in fact. I welcome any
opportunity to both further His Word and minister to my Native brothers and sisters. God's Richest Blessings to you and your ministry,
Your Sister in Christ, Jodie (Mashpee/Wampanoag)
- Northwest tribe will train sailors:
The Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe of Washington is a contractor on a new
training center for the U.S. military. The tribe has partnered with PCL to build the Small Arms Training Center at the Naval Submarine
Base. The tribe and the military broke ground for the $12.5 million project last week.
The facility will be used to train sailors and marines stationed in the
Pacific Northwest.
- Educational opportunities for Native Youth: An endowment set
aside by the late Bill Daniels, a cable entrepreneur, will be used to increase educational opportunities for Indian students in Utah.
This year alone, the Daniels Fund will provide $1 million for a day-care center for college students in southern Utah, a self-esteem
program for Indian youth and several programs to provide mentors and academic aid to Indian students throughout the state. The fund
will provide10 Indian students from the 2005 graduating class with college scholarships. Daniels left money to benefit four states. In
Utah, all the money is going to Indian programs.
Walking
the New Path
(Part 3
from Lesson 2: Who Is Father - Creator?)
2. God talks to us
There are examples of God talking directly to people in the
Bible. He walked with Adam in the garden (Genesis 3:8). He told Abraham that He would give him the Promised Land. God spoke to Moses
and gave him the 10 Commandments. He spoke to Joseph through a dream. He spoke to Paul through a vision.
Today as a Christian, through the power of the Holy Spirit, He usually speaks to us through
His Word, the Bible.
Acts 2:17 ... “And it shall be in the last days,' God says, 'That I will pour forth
of My Spirit upon all mankind; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men
shall dream dreams.”
Psalms 119:105 ...
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.”
3. God loves us
We can know that Father-Creator loves us by the things He has done
for us. He wants to do what is best for us even when we are doing things that are wrong. He sacrificed greatly for us in that He
allowed His only Son, Jesus, to die so that we could be free of sin in our lives. He likes us and wants us to spend time with Him
through prayer and reading His Word. He longs to have such a close relationship with us. (Read 1 Corinthians 13 and discus how God
shows His love towards us).
Psalm 139:1-4 ... "O
LORD, you have searched me and you know me. You know when I sit and when I
rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word
is on my tongue you know it completely, O LORD.”
Ephesians 2:4-5
... “But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in
transgressions-- it is by grace you have been saved.”
4. God give us great promises through His Word
Because Father-Creator never lies, and the whole Bible is true, we
can have faith in what we read. (Examples: Romans 8:28, Is. 40:31 etc). You can claim these promises when you talk to Father-Creator.
His greatest promise to us is to live with Him in heaven forever.
1 Peter 1:4 ... “Through these he has given us his
very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world
caused by evil desires.”

Prayer
Requests
Praise Report . . .
- I wanted to thank everyone who has been praying for those on the Crow Creek Sioux Reservation in South
Dakota. There have been no suicides since late December (there had been 4 in 5 weeks). Praise the Lord! We have heard of several
attempts, but so far they have not been succesful. Many are reaching out to the Lord for help. Contacting brothers and sisters in
Christ in order to have prayer support during trying times. We see God's hand moving on the reservation and genuinely thank you for
your continued prayer that the spirit of suicide will completely leave this reservation, and that those who are contemplating suicide
will turn to the Lord. God bless each of you that joins us in prayer. -- Anonymous
Prayer Requests
- Please pray for me to heal completely recover from my stroke so that i may start using my left arm
again, and start walking without a cane, but normally the way God created me. I suffered a brain tumor induced stroke since June 2002
and I have been house bound since. I just want to go on with my life and go back to work and just live my life fully. THANK YOU FOR
YOUR PRAYERS. – Christine G.
- My best friend is full blooded Indian and needs Christian prayer warriors standing in the gap for him.
He needs deliverance and wants to be set free. He is born again but has backslidden in drugs (heroin) but he was in the wilderness.
You must know that some people at church didn't care for him because of his long hair and his looks. He has a blessed gentle spirit
and loves the lord, but was alone in the wilderness. – Elmer D., Chipawah
