Father-Creator's Word

The path of the righteous is level; O upright One, you make the way of the righteous smooth.
Isaiah 26:7 (NIV)

Traditions: Good Gifts - Only the Best

I recently read about a 19-year-old boy that had been captured and adopted into the Caughnawaga nation (a branch of the Mohawks). His new name was Scoouwa.

When on a hunting trip with his new older brother Tontileaugo, Scoouwa had been left on his own back at the winter camp when a Wyandote warrior came by. He gave the warrior some venison and sent him on his way. When his brother returned and found out what he had not done, he explained that the Indian way is always to give a visitor the very best. He should have gone down to the river where they kept the bear oil and tree sugar to offer it to the warrior.

When we read Ephesians 1 we see that Lord gives us all His blessings. He holds nothing back. Like the Indian way each gets the same portion, the same blessing, such is the love He has for us!

Native News

  • Tribes Hit Hard by Katrina
HOUSTON - The United Houma Nation and other Louisiana tribes hit by Hurricane Katrina said they have received no federal or national aid to help them with their recoveries. Houma Chief Brenda Dardar Robichaux said the Houma, the American Indian tribe hit hardest by Hurricane Katrina, has received no national or federal assistance: tribal members have received nothing from FEMA or the America Red Cross, and cannot get through to either agency.

Hurricane Katrina blew one Houma village away and another, ''Boothville,'' is underwater. There are 3,400 Houma tribal members who lost their homes or have damage to their homes. Robichaux, however, said tribal members realize they are responsible for themselves and rebuilding their lives and are not waiting for others to help them.
  • Rapper delivers aid to Mississippi Choctaw
BOGUE HOMA, Miss. - Muscogee Creek rapper Shadowyze has made three trips carrying relief items to Hurricane Katrina victims in Mississippi, rallying family and friends in his hometown of Pensacola, Fla. to donate to Mississippi Choctaw. So many supplies were donated in Pensacola that the rapper had enough for Choctaw families on the coast near Biloxi, Miss. When it was over, Shadowyze said he received the greatest gift of all: smiles on the faces of the children.
  • Low-income tenants get high-quality housing
RENO, Nev. - A South Dakota housing nonprofit has helped put some extremely low-income residents of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe into quality rental housing. Buffalo Lodge Homes, a 26-unit development built on private property within the tribal reservation's boundaries, is providing three- and four-bedroom single-family detached houses for people earning, on average, just $4,117 annually.
  • British Columbia allocates $100 million to First Nations
VICTORIA, British Columbia - British Columbian First Nations are applauding the provincial government for its announcement of $100 million in allocations to a new ''First Nations New Relationship Fund.'' Although it is unclear what those monies will be used for at this point, leaders are encouraged to see funding attached to the New Relationship document signed earlier this year.

Walking the New Path
(Part 2, Lesson 3)

1. Jesus Loves Us & Cares For Us

He is our:
     a. Brother

“For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.” (Matthew 12:50)

     b. Friend

“Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed," says the LORD, who has compassion on you.” (Isaiah 54:10)
“You are my friends if you do what I command.” (John 15:14)
“When Jesus saw their faith, he said, "Friend, your sins are forgiven.” (Luke 5:20)
“And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, 'And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness,' and he was called the friend of God.” (James 2:23)

     c. Protector

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze." (Isaiah 43:2)
“I lift up my eyes to the hills-- where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip-- he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD watches over you-- the LORD is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD will keep you from all harm-- he will watch over your life; the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore." (Psalm 121:1-8)
